My boss, John Shufeldt recently wrote a book entitled “Ingredients of Outliers“. I know people always talk about how certain books are life changing and you can’t help but wonder if it is really true, but in this case I really do believe this book has the power to make a difference.
I’ve worked for John for over 10 years and during that time I’ve learned so much about people, life, business and success then I ever thought possible. His book uses personal experiences and accounts of historical and influence figures to highlight certain character traits that set true outliers apart.
He chose 16 character traits and highlights each of them to delineate why they are so important and necessary for success.
I thought it was interesting that the first chapter is on humility. John is an MD, MBA, FACEP & JD, he is also a helicopter and airplane pilot and type certified to fly some jets. He is also on the Phoenix SWAT team and involved with multiple charity organizations. He doesn’t do anything by half measure and yet he truly gets humility.
I’ve never once seen him rub his credentials in someone’s face or use them to get preferential treatment. He simply treats everyone with equal respect.
I’m probably a bit biased about the book, but it was so much fun to read his personal stories – probably because I was there for some of them. 🙂 If you are looking for a good book to read this weekend I highly recommend it.
